The pin in knuckle joint is subjected to
Webb16 juli 2024 · It is required to design a knuckle joint as shown in Fig.1, to connect two circular rods subjected to an axial tensile force of 40 kN. The rods are co-axial and a small amount of angular movement between their axes is permissible. Design the joints and specify the dimensions of its components. WebbTake the allowable bearing pressure on the pin as 10 N/mm 2. Design the joint completely. Draw the elevation and plan in section of the designed joint. 8. Design the suspension link of a structure, which is subjected to a load of 160 kN. The allowable stresses in tension, shearing and crushing are 100 N/mm 2; 75 N/mm 2 and 150 N/mm 2 respectively.

WebbThis pin is secured in its place by means of a split-pin. Due to this type of construction, a knuckle joint is sometimes called a forked-pin joint. In rare applications, a knuckle joint is used to connect three rods—two with forks and a third with the eye. in The knuckle joint offers the following advantages: • (i) The joint is simple to ... WebbThe pin is subjected to shear stresses and bending stresses. Therefore strength is criteria for selection of pin. On strength basis, material for rod and pin is selected as plain carbon steel of Grade 30C8 (Syt=405N/mm2).Assumption –yield strength in compression is equal to yield strength in tension.
